The procedure
- Define the situation precisely: trigger, context, your usual unwanted response
- Choose the new response — specific, observable, yours (seen done by someone? adapt it)
- Dissociated rehearsal first: watch yourself executing it well on the mental screen; edit until clean
- Associated rehearsal: step in, run it from inside, feel the difference
- Future pace: mentally run the next three real occurrences responding the new way
The science kinship
Mental practice has decades of legitimate research in sports and motor learning — imagery rehearsal measurably improves execution. The new behaviour generator is that literature's protocol with NLP's dissociated-then-associated staging added. Where other NLP claims outrun evidence, this one runs with it.
Why most self-attempts fail
Vagueness ("be confident") instead of behavioural specificity ("ask the first question within five seconds"), skipping the dissociated edit stage, and rehearsing once instead of future-pacing repeatedly. The protocol is cheap; the discipline is the product.
