Where HR people use NLP
- Feedback conversations: behaviour-level specificity instead of label-level judgement ("you were interrupted three times in that meeting" vs "you seem dismissive")
- Interview listening: hearing criteria and drivers under candidates' prepared answers — Meta Model listening
- Policy writing: spotting the deletions in "flexible working will be considered reasonably" before employees spot them
- Conflict mediation: running perceptual positions so each party hears the other's constraint
- Change communication: pacing employees' actual current experience before leading with the change narrative
The scope line
HR is not therapy. NLP-patterned coaching in the workplace stays on performance, communication and working style — it does not treat anxiety, process personal history, or substitute for an EAP or clinical referral. HR professionals trained in NLP must hold that line more firmly than anyone, because employees cannot easily decline a manager's "coaching". Good training teaches the limits as rigorously as the techniques.
Building the skill
The applicable skills — listening precision, feedback framing, state management in hard rooms — come from observed practice with real scenarios, not from certificates. The six-month programme drills them on recorded role-plays reviewed by the trainer.
